Join us for a fascinating Coffee Hour lecture featuring Mike Clem, Eastern Regional Archaeologist at the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. Mike will present on Archaeological Excavations at Eyreville: A 17th Century Plantation at Cherrystone Inlet. In 2017, Mike received a call about the discovery of a collection of artifacts that may have been of historical significance. This type of call is not uncommon for him to receive, and it rarely results in more than an exchange of a few photos and a pleasant chat about local history. However, this particular call was different. There, indeed, was a historically significant site at this location. Mike suspects that the excavations will continue for years to come, as the story of Eyreville keeps growing and evolving. This free lecture offers a unique opportunity to learn about ongoing archaeological work in the region and the fascinating history of 17th-century plantation life on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Coffee and conversation begin at 10:30 AM. Reservations are requested.
