The Opti, Laser, and 420 Race Teams are FBYC's premier competitive sailing programs for dedicated junior sailors ages 6-18 who want to compete at the highest levels. These teams practice, travel, and compete 5-6 days per week from mid-June to mid-August, with schedules aligned with the CBRYA (Chesapeake Bay Racing Yacht Association) Regatta Schedule. This intensive program is designed for sailors committed to racing excellence, providing professional coaching, race strategy, boat speed optimization, and competitive experience at regional regattas. Set in the beautiful waters of Fishing Bay on the lower Chesapeake Bay, team members develop advanced sailing skills, mental toughness, teamwork, and sportsmanship while competing against the best junior sailors in the region. The program includes Junior Week as part of the overall experience. Sailors must bring their own boats (Optimist, Laser, or Club 420 depending on team), and parents have a minimum 2-day volunteer requirement to support team operations including regatta support, boat transport, and event logistics. This program requires significant time and financial commitment but offers unparalleled opportunities for skill development, competitive success, and lifelong friendships. Non-members must be pre-approved by contacting juniors@fbyc.net. Additional costs may be needed to cover unforeseen expenses associated with coaches, travel expenses, and equipment.
