Junior Week Explorers Sailing is a five-day sailing camp for sailors ages 12 and up who want to experience sailing on larger boats with crew and an experienced instructor. Sailors sail in club member boats, usually keelboats, learning boat setup, sail trim, and boat handling with an emphasis on sailing to destinations. This class is appropriate for older beginners with little or no sailing experience, as well as for those with extensive experience. Set in the beautiful waters of Fishing Bay and the lower Chesapeake Bay, campers experience the adventure of cruising sailing, navigation, and exploring new destinations by boat. Beyond sailing instruction, campers enjoy swimming at beaches and on boats, weather lessons, knots, seamanship, and exploring nearby locations. Set in FBYC's rustic, unplugged environment with dirt roads, picnic tables, screen porches, wildlife, and ample outdoor space, Junior Week teaches not just how to sail but how to live on the water through crabbing, critter-catching, beach exploring, shells, aquatic life, oceanography, currents, tides, and sometimes how to have grit—all while growing in courage, friendships, and laughter. Although FBYC strives to accommodate demand for this class, enrollment is limited by the number of boats available to the program. Parents or guardians must provide lunch and supervision during the lunch hour (12-1 PM). Additional family activities are offered after 4 PM some days, and the week concludes with group pictures on Friday.
