Water filtration is a critical outdoor survival skill taught as part of WinShape's Adventure Program (Elk Pack) at Mount Berry. Campers who have completed 10th or 11th grade learn to filter their own drinking water from natural sources while on multi-day backpacking trips through North Georgia's wilderness. This hands-on skill development teaches campers self-reliance and environmental awareness as they learn various water purification methods used in backcountry camping. Under the guidance of professionally trained staff, campers practice identifying safe water sources, understanding water-borne contaminants, and using filtration equipment properly. This essential skill is practiced daily during the two-week adventure session when campers are away from camp facilities and must rely on natural water sources. The experience builds confidence in outdoor living and prepares campers for future wilderness adventures while emphasizing the importance of safe drinking water in survival situations.
Parents provide transportation to and from Mount Berry campus. Water filtration training occurs during off-site backpacking portions of Adventure Program.
