The Wrangler in Training (WIT) / Counselor in Training II (CIT II) program is the most advanced leadership opportunity for horse-loving teens at Camp Meriwether. This intensive two-week program combines advanced counselor training with specialized wrangler certification, preparing participants to work as both counselors and equestrian staff. Participants must have completed CIT I (preferably CIT I with Horses) and have significant riding experience. The program provides in-depth training in barn management, horse care, riding instruction methods, equestrian safety protocols, and teaching riders of all levels. WIT/CIT II participants take on substantial responsibility in the barn, working alongside professional equestrian staff to care for horses, prepare for riding lessons, and assist with instruction. They also continue developing general counseling skills through work with campers in non-riding activities. This program is ideal for teens considering careers in equestrian education or camp management. Graduates are well-prepared to apply for paid positions as wranglers or counselors. Application and interview required.
