Lower Modern summer classes introduce 8-12 year old students to modern dance technique and contemporary movement styles. Modern dance emphasizes freedom of expression, floor work, contraction and release, and exploring movement in new ways beyond classical ballet. Students learn to use their bodies expressively while developing strength, flexibility, and coordination through modern dance vocabulary. Classes incorporate improvisation, creative movement exercises, and structured modern technique. This training complements classical ballet education by expanding students' movement range and artistic expression. Current SRB Lower Division students or new students with at least one year of ballet training are welcome. Appropriate dancewear is required for participation.
