Natural Horsemanship is an advanced equestrian program at Camp Meriwether that focuses on building strong relationships between campers and horses through natural communication methods. This specialty program teaches campers to understand horse behavior, body language, and psychology while developing gentle, effective training techniques. Participants will learn groundwork exercises, natural training methods, and how to communicate with horses using pressure and release techniques. The program emphasizes building trust and partnership with horses rather than dominance-based training. Campers will spend extensive time working with horses both on the ground and in the saddle, learning to read equine body language and respond appropriately. In addition to horsemanship training, participants enjoy traditional camp activities including swimming, archery, and outdoor adventures. This program is ideal for older campers who want to deepen their understanding of horses and develop advanced equestrian skills based on natural horsemanship principles.
Parent drop-off and pick-up at Camp Meriwether. Check-in is Sunday from 1:00-3:00 PM, and check-out is Friday from 2:00-4:00 PM.
