This new class invites students to bring magical creatures to life through clay sculpture. Young artists will explore hand-building techniques while creating dragons, unicorns, phoenixes, and other mythical beasts from their imagination. The class covers fundamental clay techniques including pinching, coiling, slab construction, and adding intricate details like scales, feathers, and textures. Students will learn to construct stable three-dimensional forms, attach parts securely, and add personality to their creatures through expressive details. Each week focuses on different types of magical creatures, encouraging students to research mythology and fantasy while developing their own unique designs. All pieces will be fired in VisArts' kilns and students can choose to glaze or paint their finished creatures. This class combines technical skill development with imaginative storytelling.
