This unique class combines textile printing with basic sewing skills to create custom fabric projects. Students will learn various fabric printing techniques including block printing, screen printing, and fabric painting to design their own unique textiles. Once their custom fabrics are created, students will learn basic hand and machine sewing skills to transform their printed fabrics into finished projects like bags, pillows, patches, or simple garments. The class covers design principles, color mixing for fabric, printing techniques, and fundamental sewing skills including threading a machine, straight stitching, and finishing seams. Working in both VisArts' printmaking and fiber studios, students gain experience with professional equipment and techniques used by textile artists and fashion designers.
