This unique interdisciplinary class combines woodworking skills with painting techniques. Students will learn to build their own wooden canvas frames in VisArts' professional woodshop, then stretch canvas over their handmade frames, and finally create artwork on their custom-built canvases. This hands-on course teaches practical woodworking skills including measuring, cutting, and assembly, as well as canvas stretching techniques used by professional artists. Students gain confidence working with tools and materials while creating a finished artwork on a canvas they built themselves. The class provides a comprehensive understanding of the entire canvas-making process from start to finish.
