Year of the Horse celebrates the Lunar New Year by exploring artistic representations of horses across cultures and time periods. This multi-week class for children ages 9-12 examines how horses have been depicted in art from ancient Chinese bronzes to contemporary paintings. Students learn about the symbolism of horses in different cultures and create their own horse-themed artworks using drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Projects are inspired by horse artworks in the museum's collection. The class develops observational drawing skills, cultural awareness, and understanding of symbolism in art.
