This foundational six-week course introduces students ages 16 and older to the unique properties and techniques of oil painting. Using a limited split primary palette, participants will learn how to discern and mix tonal values and hue, work with the distinctive characteristics of oil paint, and arrange compositions for still life subjects. Rather than focusing on a specific subject matter, this class emphasizes the essential methods and materials that will allow students to expand their creative toolbox and build confidence in oil painting. Drawing experience is recommended to get the most out of this course. The instructor, Barbara Loomis, will provide some supplies, and a complete supply list along with a week-by-week calendar of topics is available through the BIC office. This class is perfect for beginners looking to explore oil painting or artists wanting to strengthen their foundational skills in this classic medium.
