This 12-week course invites writers to explore difficult, complex, or shadowy aspects of human experience. Students will read and discuss works that tackle challenging subjects with honesty and craft, then write their own pieces exploring shadow themes. The course covers writing about trauma, loss, difficult relationships, moral complexity, and other challenging subjects with sensitivity and skill. Through supportive workshop discussions, participants will develop pieces that illuminate rather than exploit difficult material. Focus on craft, ethics, and finding meaning in darkness. For experienced writers comfortable with challenging content.
